Chasing Cars – Snow Patrol

According to a Channel 4 survey, Chasing Cars was voted the number one “song of the noughties” in 2009. It has been one of the most popular songs of recent years, being covered in bars and pubs up and down the country for gigs, weddings & even funerals since its release.

As far as drum parts goes, this is a great one in that its extremely simple, and yet works perfectly for the song. In order to play this part, you need to be able to play three or four grooves depending on how you look at the part! The first two grooves are the basis for the majority of the song. The third similar to the second, using a crash on beat 1 instead of the ride, whilst the fourth has a quarter note snare with two interspersed kicks between the 1 and 2, and the 3 and 4.

Finally, a quick word on the massive amount of counting that apples to be involved in this chart. There are two ways for this to be approached. Yes, you can count them all. But its actually easier to follow the words and come in where the drums do……

The lyrics are set out below to help you (the drums come in where the word “here” is in bold):

We’ll do it all
Everything
On our own

We don’t need
Anything
Or anyone

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I don’t quite know
How to say
How I feel

Those three words
Are said too much
They’re not enough

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we’re told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that’s bursting into life

Let’s waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads

I need your grace
To remind me
To find my own

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we’re told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that’s bursting into life

All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they’re all I can see

I don’t know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never change for us at all

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
